Grading Vintage Action Figure Accessories

Grading Vintage Action Figure Accessories

Continuing with the theme of art over science , grading the condition of an item is another “in the eye of the beholder” practice that varies from collector to collector. What is truly the difference between a B, a B-, and a B+? I can barely fathom that answer.

For comics, action figures, statues, and cards, this art-science makes sense. There are many fine details to comb over. In the realm of vintage action figure accessories, that level of micro-grading becomes overkill when most parts generally fall into two real-world categories: broken and not broken.

Our Accessory Condition Grading Scale

This grade reference follows the familiar A through F system, but instead of splitting hairs with A-, B+, and half-steps, we use clear descriptions that tell you what you’re actually getting.

  • A – Great → Flawless condition
  • B – Great → Good condition with minor flaws
  • C – Good → Fair condition with moderate flaws
  • D – Fair → Poor condition with major flaws
  • F – Poor → Broken condition

Note: Unless an item is sealed, nothing is truly flawless. Minor wear is expected for most vintage accessories.

How We Handle Broken Parts

Broken parts are not typically sold unless the item carries enough value or rarity to justify offering it as a collector or repair piece.

We do our best to prevent broken parts from entering mixed lots, but they can occasionally surface. When they do, they’re separated and offered to collectors who repair or customize.

If an item shows stress marks or cracking, we give it a slight bend to test durability. If it doesn’t break with us, it shouldn’t break with you.

Behind the Scenes With a Fellow Collector

You can follow my videos on YouTube to watch me sort through piles of accessories in real time. I often include broken pieces for free with orders for collectors who enjoy restoring or experimenting.

From one collector to another, this system isn’t about perfection. It’s about clarity, fairness, and knowing exactly what’s in your hand before it reaches your shelf.
